I'm back after a short break to welcome my new baby Trevor to the family. This past week has been very exciting. As I stare into my newborn's eyes, I think about how cool it will be to teach him new things, like sports, fishing, martial arts, and all those fun things parents do with their kids. I think it’s very sad that there are many people out there who will not get to experience the joy of seeing their own children grow up because they can’t control their nutrition and exercise regularly.
It seems like a simple thing, but the truth is if you are obese you are susceptible to a myriad of health problems. These health problems shorten lives, period. Some of them can shorten a life by 20-30 years. Talk about putting a crimp in your future plans.
If this prospect isn't enough to motivate you to kickstart your health plan into gear, then I don’t know what is. If you can’t get healthy for yourself, do it for your significant other. Do it for your kids and grandkids. Do it for your future self that will look back in disgust at the condition you left yourself in.
Whether you have a partner or you're looking, your health really is all you have. Even if you have no desire to get married or have kids, you still need to look out for yourself. If you don't take care of your own health, why should someone else take care of it for you when you fall ill due to neglect?
