Did you know that exercise is actually a mild anti-depressant? It sure beats that prescription co-pay, since it’s… well, it’s free. It’s certainly a lot healthier than taking drugs to regulate your mood. Clearly I’m not recommending your abandon your doctor prescribed medication with the hopes that a little jog around the block will ease your woes, but there is something to the uplifting qualities of a solid exercise program.
Exercise releases endorphins in the brain which blot away minor aches and pains, leaving you with that euphoric feeling. You may be a little sore after a good workout, but that’s just a reminder of the gains you’ve made toward better health.
Those of you suffering from addictions such as drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, or even gambling, I would encourage to try some exercise (consult with a doctor first) and see if you can ease your addiction with something healthier. You may find that not only does exercise make you feel good about yourself, but it reduces your stress levels, helps you sleep better, and overall improves your ability to be functional and productive in other tasks.
