Do you BELIEVE in your Ability to Change?
By: Jeff    on 8/24/2009
Recently I had a coaching client who said to me, "I don't understand why I just can’t lose this extra fat."

When someone wants to lose weight we all know to look for various factors. Primarily we look at the quantity and quality of foods and of course we look at the type of exercise and how active the person is in general. But there’s another factor that’s even more important. It's the mental conditioning to drive them.

There are actually two parts to this mental conditioning. The first is simply motivation to begin. The second part is total belief in the final results. In the case of the person I mentioned above, she no longer believed the results she wanted were possible. Even though this belief is contrary to the experiences of countless others in her position, she felt sure that something was different about her that limited the amount of weight she could lose.

After discussing things with her for a while it became clear that her biggest problem was not her diet or exercise program, nor was it some genetic pre-disposition toward weight gain, but rather the whole problem lay in her mental state. She had determined in her mind that because her diet and exercise program were decent already that there was no way to lose any more weight. She’d hit a barrier. This barrier was not physical but instead it was entirely mental.

When I got her to set aside that belief temporarily it allowed her to really focus on her behavior. She got started on the One Week Health Streak weight loss program and started to really examine her lifestyle in comparison with the specific rules outlined in the program.

Something interesting happened. In fact, she experienced the exact thing I hoped that everyone trying One Week Health Streak would experience. She realized how much more she could be doing to accomplish her goal. She realized how it wasn’t entirely her fault because it takes some education to see through the deception of food manufacturers and separate what truly is healthy from what is not.

Reaching a plateau that is short of your ultimate goal can be frustrating. When you get stuck at that point for long enough you start to believe that it is your natural limit. I don’t believe in natural limitations. But if you believe in them, they will be real.

Now is the time to shift your belief and to see yourself not at your natural limit, but at the point you deeply desire to be at. Trust me when I say there is more you can be doing. You can be eating healthier and training smarter without torturing yourself. Your goal is possible, but only if you are positive that you can reach it.

If you want to get certain about your goal, you might consider a fitness coach to help you remove mental obstacles and to clarify the convoluted world of exercise and nutrition.

The One Week Health Streak program can help you become a believer in your true potential. Because it’s a short-term program, it will give you a taste of what it’s like to live healthier. It immerses you in that healthy life so you can get a clear picture in your head. This program will show you that it’s possible to achieve the body of your dreams. Without this belief you are likely to struggle with weight loss, bouncing from diet to diet without any results.
