A new study has shown that regular cardiovascular exercise in those with heart disease has more of an impact on heart health than angioplasty procedures. Angioplasty is a procedure that involves inserting a balloon into an arterial blockage to open it and then keeping it open with a small tube called a stent.Researchers believe that those waiting to get an angioplasty procedure would benefit more from simply exercising. Angioplasty can only open one artery, while exercise helps to open them all. Exercise also has many other benefits including lowering blood pressure, improving cholesterol ratios, combating arterial plaque, and increasing the metabolism.
The bottom line is there are no quick fixes for cardiovascular disease, just like there are no quick fixes for obesity. The best way is the old fashioned way… get out there and be physical. Use your body as it was intended to be used. Contrary to popular belief the body was designed to walk and not ride in a car.
Always consult with your physician before making exercise choices if you’ve had a history of heart disease.
