Health Risks of Sodium (Salt)

Today's processed foods are just swimming in with salt. Because humans crave salt, and salt contributes flavor without calories, it's added to commercial foods by the truckload.

A high daily sodium intake can contribute to hypertension (high blood pressure) because salt tends to draw more water into your body, giving you a larger volume of blood. This makes your heart work harder and can cause problems with your blood vessels.

The most important point here is that most of your salt intake does not come from a salt shaker, but rather from foods that already contain massive quantities of salt. In the video we examine some typical foods and look at the salt content, compared to the 2300mg suggested limitation.
